In most operations on over night stay at the hospital is all that may be necessary.
These operations are carried out under general anaesthesia. The abdominal cavity is inflated using carbondioxide gas. A camera and operating instruments are inserted through 5 or 10 mm holes on the abdomen to carry out the operation. Most patients are started on a clear liquid diet the same evening and discharged by the next morning.
